FAQ – Frequently asked questions

What is root canal treatment?

A root canal is needed when the nerve & blood supply of the tooth (the ‘dental pulp’) is infected through decay or damage to the tooth. If left untreated, an infected dental pulp can be very painful and will eventually lead to a dental abscess.

Is root canal treatment painful?

No. Most patients who NEED root canal treatment are suffering pain beforehand and having the treatment RELIEVES the pain. We use The Wand to comfortably anaesthetise the tooth before treatment.
For a root canal treatment to be successful, all the infection must be removed. With conventional treatment, this would often mean many visits to have the tooth cleaned out.
We use RaCe bacterial elimination and preparation system to sterilise root canals.
This means we can often complete the procedure in a single appointment.

What does root canal treatment involve?

The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection and dead/damaged pulp from the root canals and then to fill and permanently seal the canals. It is a skilled and time-consuming procedure.
